The Cultural Tours is a distinctive cultural exchange initiative developed by BFSU’s Office of Confucius Institutes under the guidance of the Ministry of Education’s Center for Language Exchange and Cooperation (CLEC). Launched in 2011, the program has become a key platform for cultural exchange and mutual understanding between China and the world.
Moving beyond one-way cultural presentations, the program combines three elements: artistic performance, intercultural dialogue, and exhibition. This approach emphasizes mutual engagement, hands-on experience, and the connection between language and culture, creating authentic intercultural dialogue and exchange.
Program Components:
Drawing on BFSU’s multilingual resources and academic expertise, the program features student artistic associations including the string orchestra, traditional music ensemble, chorus, dance troupe, and comedy workshop. The resulting offerings encompass:
• Instrumental Performance Tours: Featuring both Western and traditional Chinese instruments
• Multilingual Lecture and Cultural Presentation Tours: Including traditional comedy performances and thematic cultural discussions
• Exhibition of Chinese Cultural Artifacts: Showcasing China’s rich cultural heritage
Together, these components present China’s cultural traditions and modern development.
Global Reach and Impact:
Over more than a decade, the Three Tours have conducted activities across multiple Asian and European countries. For international audiences, the program helps people experience Chinese culture through art and language. The initiative continues to promote cultural exchange and strengthen international friendships.
For BFSU faculty and students, overseas performances and lectures provide valuable opportunities for international engagement. Participants develop multilingual communication skills in real cross-cultural settings, gain hands-on international experience, deepen understanding of cultural differences, and strengthen their international communication abilities—all supporting BFSU’s mission to develop globally-minded language professionals.
