Beijing Foreign Studies University’s Youth China Immersion Programs serve as a flagship initiative in international youth education and cultural exchange, supported by the Ministry of Education’s Center for Language Exchange and Cooperation (CLEC). Drawing on BFSU’s expertise in multilingual education and the university’s network of Confucius Institutes worldwide, these programs are designed to help international high school and university students develop a deeper appreciation of Chinese language, culture, and contemporary society.
The programs typically span two weeks and integrate three core components: language instruction, cultural immersion, and institutional visits.
Language Development: Participants engage in customized Chinese language courses taught by qualified BFSU faculty, enabling students to strengthen their Chinese proficiency and academic communication skills.
Cultural Immersion: Students experience iconic Beijing landmarks—including the Great Wall and the Forbidden City—and explore other major Chinese cities. The cultural component features hands-on experiences in traditional arts such as calligraphy, Chinese painting, traditional tea ceremony, and intangible cultural heritage crafts, giving participants a deeper appreciation of Chinese civilization and contemporary culture.
Institutional Exchange: Students visit leading Chinese enterprises and organizations to observe modern industrial development and innovation, experiencing contemporary China’s dynamism and achievements.

“You and Me in Beijing”—High School Summer Program: Now in its 15th iteration, this flagship program has welcomed over 1500 international participants from more than 20 countries, exemplifying the value of cross-cultural exchange.
“Understanding China”—University Student Summer Program: In its 7th year, this program has engaged over 500 university-level participants from over 20 countries, fostering deeper understanding among international scholars.
Country-Specific Programs: Specialized tracks such as the “Exploring China” Program for German university students, the Moscow State Linguistic University’s Beijing exchange, and the Business Confucius Institute at ESCP EUROPE program provide customized language and cultural experiences for students from specific nations.
Over the past fifteen years, the programs have attracted more than 10,000 participants from over 30 countries worldwide. These initiatives have created opportunities for cross-cultural exchange and helped build genuine understanding between China and the world.
