The Confucius Institute at Moscow State Linguistic University celebrated International Chinese Language Day on April 15 by hosting a series of hands-on workshops that introduced approximately 100 participants to traditional Chinese arts and crafts. The event showcased classical techniques through calligraphy, weaving, paper-cutting, and woodblock printing, offering attendees an engaging entry point into Chinese cultural heritage.

The calligraphy station enabled participants to learn proper brush technique and practice characters such as “吉” (auspiciousness), “爱” (love), and “仁” (humaneness). At the weaving workshop, visitors used colored cords and printed guides to create decorative bracelets and ornaments. The paper-cutting section featured traditional designs—horses, blessings, and spring motifs—which participants skillfully cut into intricate openwork patterns. The woodblock printing demonstration, featuring hand-carved wooden plates depicting tigers, guided visitors through the complete process: applying ink, positioning paper, and pressing to create prints, allowing for a direct experience of the texture and artistry of this ancient technique.

By integrating language learning with hands-on cultural practice, the program offered participants direct engagement with Chinese cultural heritage. The institute plans to continue developing such interactive activities to enhance the Russian public’s understanding of Chinese culture and strengthen educational exchange and mutual understanding between the two nations.
