Diana Pereira, rector of Brazil’s Federal University of Latin American Integration (UNILA), visited Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) on May 26. Jia Wenjian, BFSU president, and Zhao Gang, vice president, received the delegation.

Jia recalled his visit to UNILA in June of the previous year and commended the progress both institutions have made toward preparing for the Confucius Institute and fostering student exchange. He expressed confidence that continued collaboration will yield substantial advances in Confucius Institute development and campus-wide engagement, positioning Sino-Brazilian educational cooperation and people-to-people exchange on a new trajectory.

Zhao noted that the Confucius Institute at UNILA has recently received formal approval. He called for deepened partnership between the two universities, advancing collaborative initiatives in faculty and student mobility, talent cultivation, regional studies, and cultural programming.

Pereira outlined UNILA’s institutional profile and emphasized the vital role language plays in international relations. She highlighted the complementary strengths of both institutions—each combining multilingual capacity with multicultural character and pursuing international development. She expressed pride in establishing the Confucius Institute as a collaborative venture and anticipated its role in serving the local community and student body while strengthening China-Brazil friendship.
