On March 30, 2015, a 15-person Catalonian delegation of educational officials and headmasters from primary and secondary schools in Spain visited Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). Yan Guohua, Vice president of BFSU, met with the delegation. Zhang Xiaohui, Director of the Office of the Confucius Institute, and Liu Peng, Secretary and Deputy Dean of the School of International Business, also attended the meeting.

Vice President Yan conveyed warm greetings to the delegation, and introduced BFSU to the members. Yan said, as the Ministry of Education had recently approved BFSU to set up Catalan languagedepartment, he hoped the Department of Education of Catalonia could give a hand in the process. Mònica Pereña, leader of the delegation and Deputy Director of the Department of Language and Multi-language at Ministry of Education of Catalonia expressed gratitude to BFSU for its hospitality, and longed for cooperation with BFSU upon promotion of languages and exchange of students.

The Confucius Institute at Barcelona in Spain, established by BFSU, was in charge of this delegation. The visit aimed at facilitating exchanges between Chinese and Spanish education and culture, building multi-level and pertinent international cooperation between Chinese and Spanish primary and secondary schools, and further promoting and opening Chinese language courses among primary and secondary schools in Spain’s Catalonian regions.
