From August 9 to 19, 2015, the 2015 Summer camp of Confucius Institute at Zayed University, United Arab Emirates hosted by Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) and co-organized by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP) was successfully held. This 11-day summer camp attracted 14 foreign students from Zayed University and 2 teachers.
Most participants of the summer camp are beginners in learning Chinese. They came to China for further language learning, experience of Chinese culture and customs, and better knowledge and understanding of China. Therefore, FLTRP not only organized abundant Chinese language learning classes, but also arranged plentiful cultural practices. Apart from learning, campers visited Tian’anmen Square, the Imperial Palace, National Museum, Summer Palace, the Great Wall, the Bird’s Nest and the Water Cube, etc., gaining insights into both historical Chinese culture and the development of modern China. Besides, colorful extracurricular activities, including experience of traditional Chinese culture, offered campers an opportunity to learn more about Chinese culture and art.
With the support of Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and BFSU,FLTRP organized all the campers to take the HSK test at the end of the summer camp. Campers all valued this opportunity very much, and achieved excellent results.
Campers said they had benefited a lot from the 11-day study and experience. The summer camp not only promoted the campers’ interest and motivation in learning Chinese, but also delivered messages of China’s friendliness and charm to them through the whole process.
