From August 8 to 9, 2015, the training program for local Chinese teachers was held in AlorSetar, provincial capital of Kedah, and Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia.This training was hosted by Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), and co-organized by the Kongzi Institute at the University of Malaya. It attracted more than 200 local teachers in Malaysia, including teachers and students from normal schools, teachers from universities, secondary and primary schools, and teachers from private training institutions. This training has benefited a wide range of people, and it has succeeded in meeting the pre-set training goals.
A strong lineup of experts attended the local Chinese teachers’ training, including Professor Shen Guowei from the Foreign Language Department of Kansai University, coming all the way from Japan, Professor Jiang Aoshuang from Minzu University of China, and You Yang, a senior teacher focusing on Chinese language teaching from the International Division of Beijing Ritan High School.
During the two-day training, the three experts delivered six lectures with rich content for the trainees. Professor Shen Guowei’s lecture, titled “Chinese Vocabulary Teaching”, focused on features of Chinese lexical system and vocabulary teaching. By virtue of rich experience in TCSL for many years, You Yang combined grammar teaching with classroom practice, with an emphasis on interaction between the teacher and students. Meanwhile, Professor Jiang Aoshuang gave a lecture on culture teaching for the trainees, introducing how to bring Chinese cultural elements into classroom teaching.
The two-day training came to a successful close with warm applauses and thanks from the trainees.
